New York City goth club review for Dark Water

Dark Water is located at Otto's Shrunken Head in the East Village.  Otto's Shrunken Head is very far east, so be prepared for long walks or hefty cab fares.  The venue is a tiki bar that looks like they have been there for 50 years or more.  They have some entertaining drink specials and many curious looking things in back of the pushy bartender.  The seating and most of the venue is dilapidated in a way that most New York City clubs and bars are not.  There is a small stage in the rear of the venue, but the people at the event are mostly by the entry of the bar drinking.  The music is not loud enough and it needs someone to work the tone control to make more bass.  The songs played were mostly alternative hits.  I had hoped it would be more goth and less wave electronic, but some of it was ok.  The worst part about Otto's Shrunken Head were the people hitting on me and looking ultra-gross.  Really, I don't want you to grab my hand and shoulder!  I felt that I shouldn't have come into the dirty place.  I know that some old new yorkers like these nasty dives and I don't want to be too mean, but really there were too many old timers and creeps that looked like they wanted a bite out of me or my purse.  It was really yucky.

Dark Water gets one star for it's creative drinks.  Dark Water gets no stars for it's crowd, it's sound system, it's atmosphere or it's location.

  2. It sounds like your miserable self and everyone else would be happier if you stuck to Court of Lazarus events.

  4. It sounds like you need to stick to Court of Lazarus and leave the rest of us alone. Either that, or put on your own goth night somewhere awesome and show the rest of us how it's done.

  5. I would like to add that your rudeness and poor writing skills render you ill suited to blog-review goth or other club nights. Snarking on the physical appearance of those who do support and attend the various events is uncalled for in a review and shows your personal character in a poor light. Noting whether patrons are enthusiastically attired is one thing, calling those in attendance fat and ugly, as you did in previous reviews, is entirely rude.

  7. I know that it is difficult to be objective at all times when writing a critique,BUT insulting paying patrons because they do not fit your aesthetic is beyond poor writing skills. The Goth culture (you were hoping to see there and supposedly didnt) is a welcoming culture that allows people to be free spirits and not conform to canned beauty ideals.I find this an offensive review that has nothing to do with the venue and its atmosphere and more with a hurt ego..were you expecting more people to be impressed with your darky dark dark abysmal soul???? You claim that they mostly played alternative hits but then lament that you had hoped they played more Goth and less electro...but electro is not alternative hits. The pushy bartender most likely wanted you to buy a drink or leave the seat open for someone who was actually going to spend money on this venue..you know.. cause drink purchases help keep these nights afloat. Lastly, I have enjoyed my share of venues and nights in the city and I have no idea why you must try and bring down someone elses night when you could be silent and take your obvious all powerful gothly talent to start your own night...people patronize places where they are welcomed.. they tend to bring thier wallets too.. sorry you were out of your element

  8. Lemme start by saying this.... its not a goth club.... you arrogant, low rent, pontificating simpleton. WOW this is a clear example of someone who couldn't get in to all the cool parties as a kid so they have made it their mission in life to down others and there fun. See this is why Lazurus and republicans are exactly the same.... they like to think they are better than everyone around them and can do things better than anyone... and some have the audacity to try to claim starting the scene..... lmfao...... And like republicans the only this that they are is full of shit..... and of course this comment probly wont see tomorrow because thats what mermaids ( def. of mermaid, someone as useless as tits on a fish) like this do with people that don't see the same way they do.

  10. I go there. This is DorianGrayNYC (fb). People generally think I look rather snazy.

  11. Hey, I am just being truthful, Alba-NY. Would you write a film critic complaining as you are here? I think that you are being rude, since you are making it personal by insulting how I write. If they are fat or ugly, I will say so. To omit those things wouldn't be fair to my audience. What the people are like matters in a goth club review.

  12. Lawrence, play nice. It's just a review.

  13. Okay, this is fucked up. I may not like LBV events but I'm not going to write slander just because I wasn't there.

    Unprofessional, plain and simple.

  14. Yeah, I also hate when creepers hit on me when I'm trying to enjoy the music. I once was at Absolution when it was at UC-87, and some drunk mundane from the front bar wandered to the back, grabbed me to dance, felt me up and tried to make out with me. I had to physically restrain him. I haven't been back to that party since.
